While Nigeria celebrates Democracy Day, the governor of the state of Enugu, Rt. Honorable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has received a unanimous verdict from former governors and state leaders for the results of his administration.
Crossing the party lines, the comments of these leaders who stand out for their independent perspective offer a largely unadorned assessment of Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration since its inauguration on May 29, 2015.
“Governor Ugwuanyi has done very well,” said chief Jim Nwobodo, a former governor of the former state of Anambra. “From education to the streets, it has done very well,” he added.
According to the chief Nwobodo, who was also a senator, another pleasant quality of the governor lies in the fact that he does not relate to people on the basis of his political affiliations. “It knows nothing called opposition,” he said, noting that this provision has helped to strengthen peace and security in the state of Enugu.
He also praised the governor’s solid response to the coronavirus disease pandemic (COVID19). “See what he’s doing in this battle against the spread of COVID-19. He leaves the comfort of his office and his home, both day and night, to go to the borders, to the markets, to the streets, to monitor compliance, all in their quest to protect our people.
“He set up isolation and treatment centers and doctors and other frontline workers receive paid benefits and 25 percent of their basic salaries as additional incentives. This is in addition to the life insurance policy which it has taken to cover all those involved in the fight against the pandemic. I congratulate you very much on these services, “he said.
Senator Nwobodo added, however, that Governor Ugwuanyi’s greatest achievements are those intangible things that people tend to take for granted. “I am talking about peace and security. There is no struggle in any part of our state and this is due to the governor’s tolerant and accommodating spirit. In general, I must frankly tell you that our governor has done very well,” he explained.
Even the former governor of the former state of Enugu, dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, spoke of the current administration in superlative terms. “Governor Ugwuanyi has done this credibly for the past five years,” he says, adding that the governor has been “very meticulous” in choosing what he wanted the government to do. “From the beginning, he chose to touch the life of the masses as a priority. And it was magnificent in this respect, “he said.
