The Democratic People’s Party (PDP) has declared that it is ready to welcome state governor Edo Godwin Obaseki if he decides to withdraw after his disqualification from the next government primary of the All Progressive Congress.
Kola Ologbondiyan, PDP’s national advertising secretary, said this according to The Nation.
Asked if the opposition party would admit Obaseki into its fold, Ologbondiyan replied: “Yes, of course we will accept it.”
However, he insisted that there were no discussions between PDP and the governor.
Ologbondiyan also clarified that Obaseki will not receive an automatic ticket if he joins.
“Attending a party is different from contesting the election. These are two separate things.
“People join the political parties in their neighborhoods. We are in contact with our chapter on the state of Edo and we have not been told that the governor had joined our party,” added the PDP spokesman.
Previous Friday, the All Progressives (APC) Congress disqualified Obaseki from competing in his primaries on June 22.
