Super Eagles vice-captain, Ahmed Musa, has reacted after Nigeria defeated South Africa 2-1 at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, quarter-finals on Wednesday night.
The former Leicester City winger also hailed fellow teammates, Samuel Chukwueze and Chidozie Awaziem for their brilliant display against the Bafana Bafana at the Cairo International Stadium.
Samuel Chukwueze gave Super Eagles a 1-0 lead at the break after an assist from Alex Iwobi.
However, South Africa levelled in the second half, thanks to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) decision.
With the match looking to head into extra time, William Troost-Ekong forced the ball over the line in the final minute of play.
The victory over South Africa means Nigeria will now play the winner between Ivory Coast and Algeria in the semi-final on Sunday.
“We know that the game against South Africa is always tough. It is not that easy. So we talked to ourselves that we have to be patient to get the goal,” Musa told SuperSport after the match.
“It was an important win and to get the three points. both teams have pacy wingers.”
Musa added: “I think Chukwueze had a very fantastic game today and he scored a goal. With time he is going to be one of the best players we will have in the Super Eagles.
“As you can see in the next couple of years some of us will not be in the team again. So we need someone like them to be in the Super Eagles for now so that they will gain more experience.
“for Awaziem, as you can see he is having a very wonderful tournament so far and that is not his main position. even in today’s game he did very wonderful.
“Since the game against Madagascar we motivated ourselves that we will not lose any game anymore.”
