Bauchi Gov, Bala Mohammed goes after predecessors, sets up recovery panel

Bauchi governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, approved the establishment of a 17-member committee led by a former senator representing central Bauchi, Isa Hamma Misau, with a mandate to recover all the alleged looted funds and government buildings of previous administrations in the state.

A press release signed and issued by the governor’s spokesman, Ladan Salihu, revealed that the committee will use all legal means to recover even all the money that was fraudulently collected and paid an entrepreneur to handle any contract awarded by the government .

The committee should also consult with ministries, departments and government agencies to identify and assess all cases in which real estate developed by the government was removed between May 2007 and May 2019, in order to determine the legality of the transactions that culminated in the provision of assets and their recovery by the government.

Another reference term for the committee contained in the declaration is to consider and review all the land assignments of previous administrations from May 2007 to May 2019 without following the legal process enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (amended) and 1978 Land Use Law.

The Committee should also contact the attorney general to prosecute all types of persons who may be guilty of committing crimes related to the misappropriation of public funds and / or the acquisition or penal provision of territorial government ownership, before the competent court .

It is also to identify real estate and personal property held by any person found guilty of misappropriation of assets and / or funds by the state government and sent to prosecutors appointed by the attorney general in order to obtain orders from the confiscation court of confiscation.
