Professor Yakubu Mahmood, chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, explained why the results of the last general elections cannot be transmitted electronically.
This is contrary to the assertion of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, and its 2019 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, that the results of the last elections would be transmitted to an alleged central institution belonging to the INEC.
On Tuesday morning, at the resumption of the PEPT proceedings, the lawyer of President Muhammadu Buhari, Alex Izinyon SAN, presented a video in which the president of the INEC declared that his commission is not able to transmit results electronically, due inadequate facilities / coverage in the country and the IT security challenge.
The lawyer also presented a digital video disc (DVD) which contained the interview given by Yakubu to a private television station, in which he provided details on the challenges related to the transmission of results electronically.
The court admitted the DVD as Annex P85, while the certificate of conformity presented with it was admitted as Annex P86.
