Buhari Sends Special Envoy to Guinea Bissau, Benin
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, ordered Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama to carry out an urgent mission as a special envoy to Guinea Bissau, accompanied by ECOWAS President Jean-Claude Brou.
This was contained in a statement by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman.
He noted that Buhari responded to an urgent request for assistance from the Government of Guinea Bissau who kindly granted support for the country’s electoral process, including 350 units of electoral kits, 10 motorcycles, 5 Hilux trucks, 2 trucks and $ 500,000).
“This vital assistance ensured that legislative elections held in Guinea Bissau, which should help in stabilizing the country,” it read.
In a separate development, Onyeama will also undertake a mission to Cotonou, Benin, to deliver a personal message to President Patrice Talon from President Buhari.
The visit is in the context of the brewing political crisis ahead of the April 28, 2019 legislative elections in the country.
