Buhari’s minister confirms takeover of SIP from Osinbajo

The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, confirmed that she took control of the federal government’s social investment programs (SIPs).

The minister, who published it on Twitter on Monday, said she had met Maryam Uwais, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Social Investments for a crucial meeting on the Programme.

Latest Nigeria News reports that until 1 October the SIP was coordinated by the office of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

But in his transmission of Independence Day, President Buhari announced that the new ministry would be responsible for the plan.

The minister tweeted: “It is a busy week. Moving forward, I met with the SSA to President Buhari on NSIP.

“She briefed me on the activities, programmes, achievements and challenges of the establishment.

“NSIP manages Social Investment Programmes in Nigeria and it is presently under the purview of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development,” she tweeted.
