FEC takes final decision on N30,000 new minimum wage

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has made a final decision on the payment of the new national minimum wage to Nigerian workers.

The FEC, chaired by the vice-president, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, ordered finance minister Zainab Ahmed on Wednesday to pay the new minimum wage on December 31, 2019 or earlier.

The Minister of Labor, Dr. Chris Ngige, revealed it at the end of the FEC meeting in the Presidential Village of Abuja.

In addition, the aviation minister, Hadi Sirika, said that FEC approved $1.7billion for the acquisition and installation of communications equipment for the Zaria and Katsina airport towers.

The equipment, he said, “is to ensure safety and efficiency at the airports.”

He said the completion period for the contract is eight months.

The minister said it will be private-sector driven.

The Minister of Communication said FEC approved a change of the name of the ministry to be changed to the Federal Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy.
