Former Child bride in Anambra returned to school (photos)

Encouraging news from Anambra state as the 15-year-old Child bride, Miss Chikwendu, whose story was news in January of this year, returned to school today, October 8th.

Chikwendu’s forced marriage caused widespread online and offline condemnation after a Facebook user shared the story. Chikwendu was forced by his family to marry an older man named Izuchukwu Igwilo.

After the public protest, the State Commissioner for Women and Children, Lady Ndidi Mezue, intervened and Chiukwendu was recovered by the Igwilos. She was rehabilitated, trained in tailoring and trained with another 100 Ndi Anambra from the Industrial Training Fund, ITF.

Concluding the healing and rehabilitation process, Chinwendu was today accompanied by the Honorable Commissioner, his elderly father and some staff members of the ministry of women’s and children’s affairs in the school where he will continue his education
