Kogi monarch, Obobanyi is dead

Ohionwa obobanyi in Ihima, the local government of Okehi of the state of Kogi, chief Jeremiah Akaava, died at the age of 116 years.

A statement released by the Ohionwa clan in Lokoja on Saturday said that the monarch died in the last hours of Friday, NAN reports.

He said the deceased spent 36 years on the throne.

The declaration, signed by Yusuf Itopa in the name of the Ohionwa clan, described the deceased monarch as a man who defended the peace, unity and progress of Ohionwa, Ebiraland and Kogi and Nigeria in general.

The clan expressed gratitude to the men and women of good will who appreciated the role of the late Obobanyi as a unifying force on earth and, consequently, showed him love and respect while they were alive.
