Nigerian Air Force rewards officer who returned missing €37000

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) revealed plans to reward one of his employees, Bashir Umar, who reportedly returned some money in foreign currency to the owner, about 37,000 euros.

Mr. Umar, an aviator, is a member of the NAF Mobile Air Defense Team deployed at Kano Airport for security duties.

He did a routine patrol with his colleagues when he found a package containing the money lost at Kano’s Hajj Camp Market on Tuesday, an NAF spokesman, Ibikunle Daramola, said in a Sunday statement.

It has been said that the aviator found a phone number in the package he called and that he eventually returned the money to his owner, identified as Ahmad.

However, the Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Marshal Air Sadique Abubakar, gave instructions to have the aviator rewarded for serving as a lesson and encouragement to the rest of the Force personnel.

“The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has directed the Chief of Administration at the Headquarters NAF, Air Marshal Kingsley Lar, to immediately come up with modalities to reward the airman so as to encourage other personnel of the Service to continue to embody attitudes and behaviours that reflect NAF’s core values of integrity, excellence and service delivery,” Mr Daramola, an air commodore, said in the statement.
