A federal high court in Lagos on Thursday condemned the former Abia state Governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, 12 years in prison after being convicted for 39 allegations of N7.2 billion fraud and money laundering.
Kalu was accused along with Jones Udeogo, the state commissioner of finance during his tenure as governor.
Kalu’s company, Slok Nig. Ltd., was also a defendant in the lawsuit.
While Kalu and his company were convicted of the 39 counts of fraud charge, Udeogo was convicted of 34 charges.
Ruling, Judge Mohammed Idris sentenced Orji Kalu to 12 years in jail for fraud of $7.65 billion.
The court also ordered that the Slok Nig. Ltd. It should be liquidated and lose its assets to the federal government
