The leadership of the Popular Democratic Party (PDP) in the state of Edo has assured that it will organize transparent primaries to ensure the emergence of a credible and popular candidate for the election of the 2020 governor in the state.
The president of the state party, chief Dan Orbih, said Monday in Benin in an interactive session with journalists.
Orbih said the party would have had highly transparent primaries in which each vote would count to decide who would emerge as a candidate for the party’s governor.
He said the party would make sure it produced a respectable and credible candidate to free the state from the current level of underdevelopment.
“We will also ensure that our candidate is someone committed to having a significant impact on people’s lives,” he said.
He said that the party leadership would implement measures that would promote internal democracy before its primary elections so that “members would speak with one voice on the same agenda”.
The party president said the PDP had a strong presence in the state because people loved the party and believed in it.
He said the people of the state were tired of the broken promises of the Government of the Progressive Party All (APC), adding that “the people of Edo are anxious for a change in governability”.
According to Orbih, the current state administration has failed and failed to fulfill its electoral promises to the people, reports NAN.
“As such, the people of Edo must take their destiny into their hands by voting outside the party in 2020,” he said.
