Soldier arrested for allegedly stabbing a driver to death in Edo

State police command Edo arrested a corporal in Lance, Moses Oguche, linked to Brigade 4, for allegedly stabbed to a driver.

The late driver, simply called Mr. Ogbimi, served with Big Joe Motors, Benin and went to Okene in Kogi state with a mechanic, to repair a crashed vehicle that belonged to the company when the accident occurred.

Witnesses reported that the fight began when the trailer truck driven by the dead had contact with a silver Nissan Premera named Abuja-KWL 811-AP, which belongs to the suspect.

The soldier, who was said not to wear an army uniform, stabbed the driver during an exchange between them and then escaped from the scene to avoid being attacked.

It was said that he was chased by passers-by and later dropped the car and came across a bush in Agbede, in the state of Edo.

Captain Maidawa Ibrahim Mohammed, police officer for the 4th brigade, said the loss of life was unfortunate.

“The loss of life in this controversial circumstance is highly regrettable. This is certainly not in line with the professional disposition of the Army, which places high premium on the sanctity of human lives. As alleged, this unfortunate circumstance will be thoroughly investigated and if established, justice shall take its course. I want to assure the public of the safety of their lives and property.”

A worker in the transportation firm, who begged to remain anonymous, said the management and the bereaved family have been called by the police at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID).
