Nigeria’s Supreme Court in Abuja rejected the appeal presented by Alhaji Idris Mamman Gatumba, director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, disputing the election of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum as governor of the state of Borno.
The court also rejected a similar appeal presented by Kaakenna Alkali Monguno, who was challenging the election of Senator Abubakar Shaib Kyari representing North Borno.
In detail of the procedure published over the weekend, the group of five judges chaired by Judge John Inyang Okoro rejected both appeals for lack of merit.
Idris and Kaakenna, who separately challenged the September / October 2018 APC primaries in the state of Borno, turned to the court after losing both the Jos Court of Appeal and the Maiduguri Federal High Court. .
In the Supreme Court, the lawyer of Idris and Kaakenna, I K Bawa, a higher defender of Nigeria, SAN, presented his arguments, imploring the court to invoke his powers and annul the simultaneous sentences of the courts of Jos and Maiduguri.
The lawyer wanted the court to liquidate Zulum and Kyari from the office and declare Idris and Kaakenna validly elected as governor and senator of Borno.
However, the governor’s and Senator Kyari’s lawyer, Yusuf Ali, SAN, represented in court by K K Eleja, also a defense lawyer, argued that the appeals were prohibited by law, so they had no merit.
He argued that the appeals should be dismissed briskly for what the five judges agreed.Naira Marley Net Worth Naira Marley House and Cars Naira Marley Biography
