Why governors can’t escape EFCC’s probe – Nuhu Ribadu says to governors-elect
Former Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman, Nuhu Ribadu has provided reasons why Governors cannot escape investigations during or after their term.
“You are in charge of our government. You control our resources, including that of the local governments,” Ribadu said on Tuesday, April 30, at a retreat for newly elected governors organised by the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF) in Abuja.
Ribadu said the previous words meant that state Governors are often the subject of corruption investigations, why? because they are responsible for the government and control many resources in their states.
Ribadu, however, advised the state governors that they will soon be inaugurated to undertake the preservation of how to leave their position intact with their integrity, noting that this is the only thing that can save them.
He also advised governors to strictly adhere to their oath and to govern with fairness and equity.
“The day you leave, there will be checks. The person you install may be the one to come and check you. You should know that,” he said.
Ribadu told Governors to avoid cash transactions that include security votes, saying that public funds should not be spent carelessly.
He urged them to emulate President Muhammadu Buhari by separating the government from personal interests.
“You are lucky you have someone to learn from, please emulate President Muhammadu Buhari. He has no business partner, nobody sits with him to make deals. We don’t have overnight billionaires again. He is a good leader to emulate,” he said.
